Role Purpose/Objective: The Staff Accountant / Accounting Analyst supports the day-to-day operations of the Finance and Accounting Department at the direction of the Director of Accounting.
Position Summary: The Staff Accountant / Accounting Analyst supports operations within the Finance and Accounting Department with the primary focus on accounts payable processing, compliance and analysis and payroll processing and analysis. The Staff Accountant / Accounting Analyst also performs a wide range of other duties supporting preparation of audit and tax schedules and other ad hoc reporting for the Foundation’s constituents which may include activities related to annual budgeting, insurance, and real estate property accounting.


Essential Duties: Primary responsibilities for this position revolve around the accounts payable and payroll functions. These duties include the following:
· Provide audit review for all check requests and supporting documentation to ensure the accuracy and proper coding of the requests and that all Foundation and Institute policies are followed. Also, in the event that there is a discrepancy, inform the customer of the discrepancy and work with the customer to resolve the issue.
· Monthly review and reconciliation of any payments made that require 1099 reporting.
· Process stop payments for checks through the online system through SunTrust Bank and process all voided checks through the Solomon accounting software.
· Perform the monthly closing process for the accounts payable and general ledger modules through the Solomon accounting software.
· Monitor all cash advances to ensure that all supporting documentation for the advance is provided to and clear the advance once it is received.
· Serve as the primary back up for processing payments through the accounts payable system in the absence of the Senior Accounting Assistant.
· Biweekly payroll processing using Thread/iSolved payroll platform to include working with Human Resources to update employee information as needed.
· Maintain payroll processing records and work with the payroll vendor to ensure proper procedures and rules are in place for accurate processing.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
· Process and record all property tax payments for all properties held by the Foundation and related entities as well as work with the tax commissioner’s office to reconcile any discrepancies.
· Initiate wire transfers through the Foundation’s bank primarily for, but not limited to, investment activity for the Foundation.
· Process the monthly Georgia Institute of Technology project invoice for payment.
· Monthly trial balance reconciliations for receivables and payables.
· Monthly reporting of taxable fringe benefit payments to the Georgia Institute of Technology.
· Other duties as requested by the Director, Controller, Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary, and Foundation leadership.
There are also several other duties assigned to this position in a supporting role when the person primarily responsible is not present or able to do the duties creating an opportunity to cross-train and develop additional competencies.

· Knowledge of accounting systems with an emphasis on not-for-profit accounting and Accounts Payable and Payroll applications.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Financial Information Systems with advanced Excel skills.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in accounting and financial roles preferably in higher education, not-for-profit, or public administration. In addition, the Staff Accountant will possess knowledge of accounting systems with an emphasis on Accounts Payable and Payroll processing, reporting, and controls, as well as experience in financial reporting and analysis. The Staff Accountant will have proficiency using Excel and other Microsoft applications, a demonstrated ability to use technical knowledge and tools, and the capacity to communicate financial information clearly and to work collaboratively across the Foundation and Institute.
Experiance using Thread/iSolved for payroll processing and NetSuite or similar ERP solutions for AP processing, workflow, and reporting is preferred.
